Messages for the World Language Teacher
August 17, 2011
The Polyglot Press aims to inform the UCPS World Language teachers and keep them abreast of valuable links, news, professional developments, accomplishment, etc. This information is housed on www.polyglotpress.blogspot.com Feel free to access it there in the future. You can also add comments. No personal news or names will be included in the blog version.
BRAVO!
· Blogtime! The Polyglot Press is moving to a new format. This year, resources of use to world language teachers in UCPS will continue to be emailed. Instead of merely posting back editions online in Moodle’s Second Language Teachers’ Resources, the emailed material will also be posted on a blog. This will permit any of you to comment. Feel free to add ideas, discoveries, questions, links, workshops, photos, video clips, materials you have found, etc. The new blog is found at http://polyglotpress.blogspot.com/ If you have never used www.blogspot.com it is free, fast and very easy. You can even upload blog entries from your SmartPhone. Note – The BRAVO section with teacher names and accomplishments, births, illnesses, etc. will not be posted in the Polyglot Press blog.

· IIS Regional Focus Groups a Success - The four Instructional Improvement System focus groups NCDPI conducted in conjunction with the Center for Educational Leadership and Technology (CELT) during the first week of August were a success. With stops in Raleigh, Hampstead, Asheville, and Charlotte, the IIS team shared the vision and gathered feedback from around 300 local educators, representing the following groups:
· Classroom teachers· NCVPS teachers· Testing coordinators· Instructional technology coordinators· Professional development leads· Guidance counselors· Human resources staff· Principals/assistant principals· Higher Ed representatives
The team received insights on local needs and wants as well as concerns as they relate to the IIS. Numerous educators volunteered to participate in future webinars, to provide feedback on the guidance documents, and potentially to participate in the RFP evaluation and/or piloting process. If you know of other educators who would like to contribute, but did not get a chance to attend the focus groups, please direct them to our website: http://www.ncpublicschools.org/acre/improvement/resources/. There they will find some key documents to review as well as a survey to complete.
